Helping communication develop
At NigerBell Speech and Hearing Centres, our speech and language professionals work with babies, children and adults who have different levels of developmental speech, language and communication difficulty. Support may also be provided for eating, drinking and swallowing concerns.
We work with people living with physical or learning disabilities, hearing loss, and communication changes resulting from cardiovascular or neurological conditions such as stroke.
Assessment before treatment
Care begins with an assessment of the client’s strengths, level of difficulty and daily needs. The findings guide an individual treatment plan designed to help the client make the best possible progress.
Parents, siblings, caregivers, teachers and other people who have a close relationship with the client may be involved in the therapy plan. This helps skills developed during sessions transfer into home, school and community life.
Working as a team
Speech and language care may involve doctors, audiologists, psychologists, teachers, social workers, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. Collaboration helps ensure that communication goals support the client’s overall care and participation.

Hearing technology and rehabilitation
Receiving a hearing aid or cochlear implant is the beginning of a listening journey. Auditory and speech-language rehabilitation can help children and adults learn to use the sound information available through their devices, build communication skills and work towards practical goals.
